Ready for Part 1 of 2pm's Go Crazy?!
Although this song might get you excited and make you want to PARTY~~ we can use this fun song to learn Korean! So, technically, you're still studying while you are preparing to go out partying and listening to 2pm...right? Part 1 is a pretty easy/short section, so let's get this done quick!
Have fun singing!
Let's get started!
Nouns거(것) - thing 금요일 - Friday 밤 - night 시 - hour 나 - me/I 잠 - sleep 길거리 - street 클럽 - club 세상 - world 모두 - every 여자 - girl/woman | Adverbs다 - all 부터 - from | Grammar-니까 -아/어/여 도 -못 -겠어 -들 -아/어/여(요) | Verbs/Adj아니다 - to be not 미치다 - to be crazy 되다 - to be/become (잠)자다 - to sleep 부르다 - to call/say 이다 - "is"/"to be" |
Lesson.
As most people who study Korean probably know, 아니 means no in Korean (which is derived from the verb 아니다 to be not). 미친거 can be broken up in 2 parts. 미치다 which means to be crazy, and 것 which means "thing." -ㄴ is added to the verb stem [미치] to turn this verb into a descriptive form, describing the noun that comes after [거]. So, 미친거 literally means a crazy thing. Here we have 아니다 in the informal present tense, 아니 + 야. So, the sentence's literal translation is "No, this is not a crazy thing? // No, it's not crazy?"
금요일 밤이 되니까
금요일 means Friday, and 밤 means night.. so added together, it just means Friday night. The 이 added to 밤 is the subject marker which is explaining that Friday night is the subject / the one doing the verb. In this case, the verb is 되다 which means to be/become. So (literally) Friday night is being. Simply, Friday night is. The grammar structure added to the verb stem -되 is -니까 which is used with the meaning of "because." So, this sentence can be translated to "Because it's Friday night!"
12시가 되도 나 잠 못 자겠어 다 날 부르니까
12 is just an indication of the hour (because it is followed by 시 which means hour), so 12'o clock. -가 is added as a subject marker, so (much like 밤이) 12시가 is indicating that 12'o clock is or it is becoming 12 o'clock with the use of the verb - 되다 [to be/become]. However, this time the grammar structure added is -아/어/여도 which is used to mean even, or even though. So, the first part of this sentence is "even though it's 12'o clock." 나 means me, or I. 잠 often used with 자다 [to sleep] means sleep as a noun (so, 잠자다 together also means to sleep, or catch some z's). In between the 잠자다 here is the grammar structure -못 that when added in front of a verb means "can't do [verb]". So, in this case, 나 잠 못 자다 means I can't sleep. The grammar structure added to the verb stem 자 is -겠다 which is a future tense form often showing assumptions - this grammar structure is then turned into present tense to form a complete sentence [+아/어/여]. 나 잠 못 자겠어 completes the sentence to means "I won't be able to sleep. Or I can't sleep." 다 means all, often used for referring to people and things as well (all people / everything). Here we have 나 [me/I] + ㄹ [object marker] which is signifying me/I as the object of the verb 부르다 [to say/call]. They're all calling what? Me. Added to the verb stem 부르 is the grammar structure -니까 again, meaning because. So, even though it's 12'o clock, I won't be able to/can't sleep. Because everyone's calling me!
아니, 미친거 아니야?
밤이야? 밤이 아니야?
These lines are similar to the ones above. Added to 밤 [night] is the verb 이다 which means "is". It is then conjugated into the informal present tense 이 + 야. So, is it night? 밤이 makes night the subject of the verb 아니다 [to be night] + 야 [present tense form]. Is it not night? They seem confused...
길거리부터 클럽에 세상에 모두 여자들이야
길거리 means street and the added adverb -부터 means from - from the streets. 클럽 is the Korean spelling for the English word club and attached to it is the location marking particle -에 that means in, at, or to - in this case, it means at. 세상 means world and -에 is again attached to it, meaning in this time - at the club, in the world. 모두 means every. 여자 means girls/woman, and when -들 is attached to a noun, it makes the noun plural - so girls/woman. -이야 again is the 이다 verb "is" and the informal present tense form -야. So, this sentence can be translated to "From the street, everyone in the clubs, IN THE WORLD, are woman!" So basically, this sentence sounds like they are surrounded by women and having the time of their life (obviously there are males, but they are paying no attention to them. They see women everywhere!)
