Welcome to our next stop on Travel Korea! This time, we're traveling to one of Seoul's most popping bars-- Ho Bar! (side note the picture says Ho Bar IV not Ho Barn). This is another one of those stops that holds a special place in our hearts. There are so many fond memories and inside jokes from the Ho Bar in 안암 that we want to share with you, so get ready! Just as a reminder, if you do travel to any bars in Korea, remember to drink responsibly! |
Ah~~ Ho Bar. Home to the hos; just kidding. But it is a great place for friends to go and get a few drinks. It's only right to do this place since our song study of the week (well, month really) is 2pm's Go Crazy!
Ho Bar is a Western style bar located in a lot of different places throughout Seoul. As you can see in the picture above, that specific Ho Bar is number 4! I'm not too sure about Ho Bar IV's location but I do know that you can find other Ho Bar's in 안암 (Anam), 신천 (Sincheon), 홍대 (Hongdae), 강남 (Gangnam), in almost every province of Seoul.
So, like we said before, Ho Bar has a more Western feel to it. In one of our other travel hot-spots, 가오가, we talked about how that was a Korean style bar for groups of friends to have there own area to hang out-- it's not too great of a place to go out and meet people (but you definitely can!). But Ho Bar has a more open layout for you to talk and mingle with other people who are in there. With its great atmosphere, and maybe a few drinks giving you courage, it's easy to make new friends!
Now, inside the bar is a little dark, but they turn on a red fluorescent light to give the place any edgier, cool feel. Along with that, Ho Bars try to play electronic, house music to give it the cool, Western bar scene. Not all the time, but a good amount of the time. Now, in my opinion, the music they play is the PERFECT chicken dance music. What's chicken dance? Ohoho. Get ready for a ride kids. When we studied abroad, one of the first bars we went to was Ho Bar. It was really cool, the music was bumping, bartender was cool, we're having a great time! And then, we look over and see one of the bartenders just, rock his head back and forth (like a chicken), hands a little up, and just chicken dancing! There is probably a name for it but to us, it's just the chicken dance. To get a better understanding of it, check out this video.

We're not going to get into the drinks/ food too much because it's like any other bar out there. But, we do want to note that in every Ho Bar, really in every bar, you'll find Darts! Darts is such a huge game in bars. It's one of the best ways to enhance your fun while in a bar! Trying to beat your friend, going up against random people you meet, this game does a lot. The best way to describe darts is pretty much like describing a billiards table in a normal Western bar. It's just there as a way keep yourself busy while having fun. Brings out the competition in everyone! To play a round of darts is pretty cheap to. The price ranges from 1,000 원 to about 3,000 원 ($1-$3). Pretty much nothing right? |
But with it's great atmosphere, fun music, and good people, Ho Bar is definitely a spot you want to check out! The drinks, the food, everything was good! There are so many memories there for us. Here's another quick video for you guys to check out! Here's a Ho Bar introducing it's staff and advertising themselves: HoBar
Actually, there is one story that I want to tell you guys.
So, we used to go to the Ho Bar in 안암 by Korea University quite often. Often enough that we befriended the bartenders there! That alone should be the story, but let me tell you about when he learned our names. While I was studying abroad, I didn't have a lot of money to spend, so I had to be wise on what days I would go out or stay in. Well guess what, the day I decide to stay in was the day that all my friends introduced themselves to the bartender! With that, the next time I went, I made it my mission to introduce myself. I was pretty nervous though, even with all the liquid courage in me, I couldn't do it. So, Bria was the one who introduced me to him. Now, that seems fine but it really wasn't. For those of you who don't know Alba [알바] in Korean... means part-time job. PART. TIME. JOB. So, during my introduction he looked at me and told me that there were no part-time positions available ㅠㅠ. No, it's just my name I swear~! But, either way, it was such a funny moment and one I will definitely NEVER forget!
