Welcome to Part 1 of Busker Busker's Cherry Blossom Ending!
I hope you guys will enjoy this song, it's very pleasant! It should be a great way to start off the Spring season - with cherry blossoms!
More good news, this week's song is not only pleasant, but it should be an easy/relaxing week. The lyrics aren't too long, or too lengthy! Let's find out why this song is so popular in Korea!
Let's get started!
Nouns 그대 - you (그대여 - sweeter sound - "my darling") 오늘 - today 우리 - us/we 거리 - street 밤 - night 자장노래 - lullaby (song) 와/과 - and (linking nouns) 둘이 - two people (us two, them two, you two) 손 - hand 떨림 - the shakes (vibrations) | Adverbs 단 - only/just 같이 - together 이 - this Grammar -은/는 가 -고 -던 -을 수 없다 | Verbs/adj 걸다 - to walk 들려오다 - reach one's ears/come into hearing 어떻다 - how/in which way (어떻게 - how?) 잡다 - to catch/capture 모르다 - to not know 알다 - to know |
Lesson.
The word 그대여 is derived from the simple word, 그대 which simply means you. 그대여 seems to have a sweeter sound, like to say, "my darling."
오늘은 우리 같이 걸어요 이 거리를
오늘 means today, and attached is a topic marker 은 to put emphasis on TODAY in the sentence. 우리 means we, or us, and the adverb 같이 means together. **Not to be confused with the verb 같다. 걸다 is a verb that means to walk, and in this case, it is presented in present tense form - (걸다 - 다 + 어요). Usually the verb marks the end of a sentence; however, sometimes the rest of the information (in speech, sometimes because it was forgotten, or the person wants to add more information to be more specific) is added to the end of the sentence -which is the case for 이 거리를. 이 means this, and 거리 means street. -를 is the added object marker that is indicating WHAT we are walking together today - in this case, this street!
밤에 들려오는
밤 means night or nighttime. -에 is an added location/time particle that means in, at, or to - in this case, it means at. 들려오다 means for something to come into hearing. Added to the verb stem 들려오 is -는 which is changing the verb into a descriptive word that describes the noun after - 자장노래 [a lullaby]. So 들려오는 자장노래 is a lullaby that comes into hearing, the lullaby that is being heard (continued in next line).
자장노래 어떤가요 오예
어떤가요 is a mixture formed of the verb 어떻다 and -ㄴ 가요. The phrase 어떤가요 is pretty much asking how is something (similar to 어때요? also How is "something"/it?). So, How is this lullably that you're hearing on this night?
몰랐던 그대와 단 둘이 손 잡고
몰랐던 is a word combined of the word 모르다 [to not know] in past tense [모르 + 았다, 몰랐다], and the grammar structure -던 which is similar to -는 in changing words to describe another; however, -던 puts emphasis on the PAST of the verb, but it has NOW changed. So, 몰랐던 그대 [you] is the you, whom I DIDN'T know (but now know). 와 is used as AND when linking nouns together or in this case, with (와 and 과 are the same, 와 is used after vowels, 과 is used after consonants). 단 means just or only. 둘이 means two people, or in this case, us two. 손 means hand. 잡고 is a verb [잡다 - to catch] + grammar structure -고 which is AND while linking VERBS together. So, just you, whom I didn't know, and I who hold hands together.
알 수 없는 이 떨림과 둘이 걸어요
알 수 없다 is the verb 알다 which means to know, and the grammar structure -을 수 없다 which means CAN'T (literally 수 [method/way] 없다 [to not exist], there is no method or way to VERB). 알 수 없다 means can't know. This grammar structure is then turned into a descriptive word (+는 to verb stem) to describe 이 [this/these] 떨림 [shakes]. 과 means and or, with (like 와). So, 알 수 없는 이 떨림과 means with these unknown shakes/nervous feelings. 둘이 [us two/two people] 걸어요 [walk - present tense].
